A Collected Interview:

Tanesha Awasthi of Girl With Curves

What inspired you to become a blogger?

I started the blog as a creative outlet outside my fulltime job in the tech field, which was my hubby’s idea. At the time, I didn’t even know what a blog was, and I had no idea what I’d write about.

How does your heritage inspire your style?

I think my heritage is expressed mostly in my accessories.  I love unique, ethnic accessories from far away lands, and I’m mixed with 8 things equally.

What bloggers did you look up to before creating your own blog?

I hadn’t known of any blogs when I started my own.  Over time though, I found The Glamourai, 9to5chic, Karla’s Closet, Gary Pepper, and they quickly became my favorites.  I think the beauty of blogging is there’s no ‘right way’ or no ‘better layout.’  Blogging allows individuals to be individuals, and that’s a really beautiful thing.

How does it feel to have a following of people who is inspired by you?

It’s the most amazing feeling in the world to be able to help girls and women feel good about themselves, while having fun with fashion and spreading a positive message.

What do you think you’ll dress like in ten years?

In ten years I hope to be wearing my own clothing line! (Fingers-crossed).

What season do you feel like your style is at its highest level?

Definitely Fall/Winter.  I love layering, wearing boots, sweaters, coats, and scarves… Colder climates allow me to get much more creative with fashion.

Who are some of your favorite designers?

Oscar de la Renta is amazing, and Valentino is timeless and classic with a bit of edge.  Michael Kors is also pretty fab.

Do you have any tips for females looking to become fashion bloggers?

The best advice I can give is to be yourself, develop your own unique voice, and above all else: blog about what you’re passionate about.

How do you feel about the state of Plus Size bloggers?

I think the Plus blogging genre is growing and growing, which is great!  We all have different styles and different qualities to offer, and I love seeing such diversity in such a small community.

Who’s your style icon?

I really love Olivia Palermo, Rachel Zoe and Kourtney Kardashian’s style, as well as Audrey Hepburn’s and the young Elizabeth Taylor’s.

What would you say has been your biggest achievement as a blogger?

Being able to impact lives through showing that you can be stylish and have fun with fashion at any size.

What keeps you inspired?

My readers!  Knowing that I’m helping at least one person in the world keeps me going.
